The Noble Goals Intended

By Cyril D. Lurlay
(inspired by the July 19, 1994 press conference given by then Labor Minister Thomas Woewiyu in Monrovia, Liberia)
Scheming and Plotting
Recruiting and Training
Misleading Invading
With Noble Goals Intended!
Then came the Fateful Day
In Butuo 24 December
You always must remember
‘Twas Nineteen Eighty Nine
Gunshots Screaming Running
Drowning Stabbing Butchering
Maiming Beheading Bloodletting
Destroying Degrading Disgracing
Offending Defending Splitting
Raping — Simply Killing
With Noble Goals Intended!
When will it end
When the Man becomes PRE-SI-DENT
Yes President of the Republic
But not before the Doe(s) and Dwanyens
The Flomos and Daniels
The Duopus and Towehs
The Biddles and Kpans and
The Lesser Knowns and Unknowns
In Butuo’s County
Brutally lose their Mamas and Papas
And other Relations to
The Noble Goals Intended
Then on to Bong and Lofa and Bomi
Cape Mount Grand Bassa and Marshall
Montserrado and Rivercess
Grand Kru and Margibi
Don’t forget Maryland
Grand Gedeh and Sinoe –
Every inch of Liberia must
Taste the Nimba Experience
In order to fully discern
The Noble Goals Intended.
Is the Man President yet Well not yet
New rebels have evolved from the Rebellion
Jealous Strong Conniving Disobedient
Vindictive Brutal Engaging Mutating
Angry Daring Challenging
Young and old Country and Congo
Rebels have evolved to thwart the
Presidency of the Man Simply to kill
(or is it to lead in fulfilling)
The Noble Goals Intended
What is this Noble Goal
Must you ask look around
Murders and Fear Burning and Looting
Forcibly Taking Selling Transferring
Harassing Appointing Dictating
Corrupting Stalling Reneging Frustrating
Oppressing and Double-Dealing
While Anarchy Atrocities and Refugees have
Resulted from their effort
They say were for
The Noble Goals Intended
Now that the Mess is Naked
Key players Vomit Confessions all over the place
Blaming the Man the Man Alone for being
Evil and Wicked and Selfish for Corrupting
Their Noble Goals Intended
But this they must know
For though apathetic the Liberian People
Don’t take them for fools
Each player will have his day in Court
And then forever will be haunted
To answer this one-word question,
WHY
And no answer he gives
Or price he pays will ever suffice
Inspite of himself proclaiming
The Noble Goals Intended!
