Recommendation

We believe the only proper and moral purpose of government is to protect the rights of its citizens — from physical violence, protecting their rights to life, liberty, and property and pursuing their happiness. Without these rights, no other rights are possible.

Liberians hoped President Taylor would take his responsibility to the Liberian people seriously. He has failed them miserably because of his declared incompetence to lead. By his deeds and speech, President Taylor has plunged the nation into global disrepute and political oblivion.

Consequently, he must be impeached to allow a proactive leadership that will provide physical security, food, shelter, medical care, gainful employment, education and family integrity. His impeachment would set an example for future public servants.

Consistent with the principles of separation of powers and checks and balances in Article 3, Chapter 1 of the Liberian Constitution, our legislators must provide security for their constituents by preparing a bill of impeachment to remove Mr. Taylor from office for failing to bear true faith and allegiance to the republic in the discharge of his presidential duties and functions since 1997.

Members of the National Legislature have nothing to lose but everything to gain by acting to redeem themselves and their constituents from the continuing bastardization of our collective heritage. To act is also to stop further war activities in Liberia, including LURD’s military confrontation necessitated by this government’s misdeeds, missteps and doublespeak.

We appeal to this Honorable Body, therefore, to take necessary steps now to curtail paradoxically treasonable abuses of executive power, such as the pillaging of our natural resources by a greedy few, nepotism, training of RUF rebels in Liberia and all other corrupt practices evident in this administration.
